At Kivato Dysgraphia Tutoring Houston, we can help with all types of Dysgraphia

Dysgraphia is a learning disability that hinders the writing ability of an individual. However, at Kivato Dysgraphia Tutoring Houston, we understand that a student with poor handwriting is not always indicative of Dysgraphia. Dysgraphia is a processing disorder where the difficulties a student may face might not always stay constant. Primary types of Dysgraphia that can be identified are as follows:

  • Type 1: Dyslexia Dysgraphia
    • Written work, created spontaneously which is illegible. Copied work can be acceptable while the spelling is poor. A student with dyslexia dysgraphia might not have dyslexia. Finger tapping speed is normal.
  • Type 2: Motor Dysgraphia
    • In Motor Dysgraphia, written work is poor to illegible even when copied from another source. However, letter formation can be improved in short samples of writing after continuous effort.
  • Type 3: Spatial Dysgraphia
    • Spatial Dysgraphia is characterized by a lack of spatial awareness. You may find that your child is producing written work that is spontaneous and illegible.
  • Some additional dysgraphia types include Phonological Dysgraphia and Lexical Dysgraphia.
    • In Phonological Dysgraphia, spelling unfamiliar words are challenging and students may struggle with phonetically irregular words.
    • Lexical Dysgraphia is identified when a person can spell but relies on standard sound-to-letter patterns. This leads to the misspelling of irregular words.

In fact, stress is the most common problem related to dysgraphia. Oftentimes, students can get frustrated and refuse to write.

How can Kivato Houston Dysgraphia Tutors Help?

At Kivato Dysgraphia Tutoring Houston, we understand that placing an emphasis on rehearsed and systematic teaching style helps students learn writing. We combine this with a strong focus on writing practice to help students overcome writing difficulties. Grammar, spelling, and mechanics of writing such as punctuation and capitalization leave students with dysgraphia confused.

Kivato Dysgraphia Tutoring Houston also knows children with dysgraphia exhibit the following traits which are common symptoms of dysgraphia:

  • Reversals: A student flips the direction a letter faces across the vertical axis
  • Inversions: Students flip letters across the horizontal axis so that the letter is upside down
  • Transpositions: The sequence of letters in a word is out of order

Our Houston Dysgraphia tutors are aware of the difficulties students face. So they always make an effort to understand each child while motivating them to succeed. Our tutors never mistake a student’s struggles with not trying. Rather, Kivato Dysgraphia Tutoring Houston recognizes they face many challenges and give them the guidance they need to overcome them. We develop a specialized and unique instruction guide that includes handwriting practice. Although an early approach to dysgraphia is ideal, it is never too late to start training a student’s skills. At Kivato Dysgraphia Tutoring Houston, we provide appropriate accommodations to allow them to reach their true potential.

Is Your Child Holding Their Pencil the Right Way?

In order to help our students, it is important to make sure they grasp their pencils correctly. Handwriting and focus are related to the way they grasp their pencil. If your child is holding their pencil between their fingers, their grasp is inefficient. An excellent and functional grasp is seen in a 3 finger grasp. Here the thumb, index finger, and middle finger work in unison to write. Our Houston Dysgraphia Tutors understand that students want to use a grasp they are comfortable with. As educators, we will be sure to provide direction on the correct method to obtain a proper grasp.

With Kivato Dyspraxia Tutors Houston, we know that one Thing Leads to Another

Our Houston Dysgraphia Tutors know that each child may encounter varying problems in academics. Students with dysgraphia may struggle with spelling but not handwriting and vice versa, others may struggle with handwriting and not spelling. Some students may struggle with the movement of large muscle groups while others may struggle with fastening buttons or zippers. Our Houston Dysgraphia Tutors pay attention and record where the student faces difficulty. This allows them to focus on addressing the core problems the student faces.

Kivato Dyspraxia Tutoring Houston

Dysgraphia Tutoring HoustonKivato Dyspraxia Tutoring Houston looks at studies that show that symptoms of other conditions such as attention disturbances, literacy difficulties, and dysgraphia can overlap with dyspraxia. Children with dysgraphia can also show signs of dyslexia and in some cases, an attention disorder. Dyspraxia varies with age, resulting in remedial programs that include exercises to promote dexterity. Some children with dyspraxia struggle to perform even practiced actions in their first attempt when taken to a new environment. This is because dyspraxia prevents the transfer of learning from one set of circumstances to another. Children lack the movement recall that allows them to replicate aspects of movements they have already performed and apply them to new situations. This creates a barrier for movements that should be automatic, and therefore planning for each movement has to begin anew. The persistent concentration that the children have to apply can quickly make them exhausted and dispirited; consequently, it becomes overwhelming at times with feelings of hopelessness and frustration. Seeing other children succeed with more fruition and less effort can put them in an already despairful situation. At Kivato Dyspraxia Tutoring Houston we understand the importance of the children’s emotions when it comes to learning.

At Kivato Dyspraxia Tutors Houston, we Let Them be the Boss

Our Kivato Houston Dyspraxia Tutors know that children do not tend to have the greatest planning skills due to lack of experience. Poor planning may be caused by children knowing what they want to achieve but not knowing how to achieve it. Our Kivato Houston Dyspraxia Tutors believe in instructing students not by following a regiment stripped of enjoyment; rather we believe it is more efficient to teach the child by letting them decide what they want to do. This allows us to respect the child’s interests, as well as bridge the gap between the teacher and student. It is true that children need direction and guidance on what they need to learn. However, should you let your child pick the topics they want to learn or explore, they will enjoy the experience of learning. Therefore, you can help your child by asking what they would like to do, and assisting their teacher in creating the path to their future learning. We understand the importance of allowing the child to retain ownership over learning if it is to be meaningful to them rather than just rote learning. At Kivato Dyspraxia Tutoring Houston, we believe it is important to have a platform for communication between parents and teachers.

At Kivato, we know that they might not be the ‘Naughty Kid’

Studies have shown that it is four times more common for dyspraxia to appear in boys rather than in girls. Unfortunately, evidence shows that a majority of schools mistake the challenges that children with dyspraxia suffer from as behavioral issues. In most cases, adults may label some of the children’s actions as thoughtless and clumsy. Although what seems to be clumsy or thoughtless may lie outside of the child’s control thereby causing emotional distress. And oftentimes, children may not be able to express themselves effectively. Kivato Dyspraxia Tutoring Houston understands that not giving enough time to understand your child may lead to frustration, again worsening the situation.

How Kivato Dyspraxia Tutors Houston Help through Tutoring

Dysgraphia Tutoring HoustonKivato Dyspraxia Tutoring Houston helps students with dyspraxia with a method called rhythmic writing. A common rhythmic writing exercise is tracing figure “8” ‘s on a chalkboard counterclockwise. While the student performs this action, they must say the direction they are going out loud. This allows them to develop the focus required to retrain themselves to become effective learners. Our Houston Dyspraxia Tutors understand this encourages the students and helps them obtain the confidence and emotional security they need to be successful students.
