ADD: What is it?

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) is a learning disability characterized by behavioral problems including hyperactivity, difficulty focusing, staying on-task, and impulsivity. On top of the behavioral problems caused by ADD and the social stigma associated with it, overcoming ADD seems like an insurmountable obstacle. Fortunately, there are guides who can show how to be successful in traversing it. Our Kivato Houston ADD tutors know how to keep students focused and ensure your child gets the help they need. Kivato ADD/ADHD Tutoring Houston provides certified tutoring services for students with ADD/ADHD.

Have ADHD? No problem, our tutors can help!

An individual has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) when they exhibit characteristics of hyperactivity. A recent CDC report shows that about 8% of students between the ages of 4-17 have been diagnosed with ADHD in 2007. 2003 and 2007 have seen a rise in parent-reported ADHD cases with about 22% of parents reporting their child as having ADHD. Common treatments for ADD and ADHD are medication and psychotherapy. Kivato ADD/ADHD Tutoring Houston provides a natural form of brain training as treatment for ADD/ADHD students.

Our Kivato tutors follow National Institute of Learning Development (NILD) therapy for our ADD/ADHD tutoring

Many students with learning disabilities have their areas of strengths and weaknesses. To help your student excel academically, our Houston ADD/ADHD tutors utilize NILD Educational Therapy (ET) consisting of efficient treatment techniques for ADD and ADHD.

There are many core techniques used in an NILD ET session to address the academic and cognitive processing needs of individual students. Our Kivato Tutors follow core techniques including Blue Book, Dictation and Copy, Buzzer, Math Block, and Rhythmic Writing. NILD techniques encourage strategy development, self-questioning skills, oral communication, language proficiency, and maintaining focus for students.

Rhythmic Writing Says, ‘Focus!’

At Kivato Tutors Houston, we incorporate Rhythmic Writing (RW) exercises for our students with ADD/ADHD.  RW improves visual and cognitive skills, builds visual-motor integration, sensory integration, and directionality. RW also targets the lack of students’ focus. In an RW exercise, the student traces figure 8’s on a chalkboard, dictates the direction they are tracing, and answers mental math problems as directed by the education specialist. RW also includes letter formation and cursive writing. The goal of RW is to make the student think on different dimensions while stimulating their brain. See the attached Rhythmic Writing video to observe an example of what the core component of ET looks like.
